An in depth but light hearted account of my journey through Chemotherapy. It is informative for those who care about me but also for those who are experiencing or about to experience the treatment.

Food Friends and Enemies
It's Saturday and I'm just beginning to get my strength back. It is all related to food. if I take a bite of solid food/protein it is like a pep pill.....for a while.
As some of you know it is a real challenge because everything tastes like shit. I had resorted to taking those skinny round "Slim Jim's" cutting them into very small wafer like pieces and then downing them with a glass of water....anything to infuse protein without having to taste it which makes me gag.
If someone would come up with a highly dense protein pill that could just get chemo patients through the few days where this is an issue. Maybe NASA has something.
A piece of very good news; In addition to the chemo, I'm participating in a clinical trial for a drug called Aflibercept. As in any clinical trial a percentage of the testees are given the real drug and some are given a placebo (sugar water). In this trial it is a 50/50 chance that you get the drug. The "good news" is I've had a real time with my sinus, swelling, soreness and sore throat. I learned from a very good source that this is not a side effect of the chemo it is a side effect of the Aflibercept (this drug is not a chemo drug). I had one other symptom that indicates the same thing. If it is true then when I go off the chemo I can continue with the trial and if it does indeed work I can continue on that indefinitely without the chemo side effects. Stay tuned. B.
