Life From Here, Update # 99

I met with the Doc last Tuesday, he had talked to the Duke Doc and here’s the program, such as it is. Starting tomorrow, the 28th, I begin again with the chemo Taxotere. It had stopped working last year, which is why I went on Zitega and then Jevtana, neither of which worked or worked for very long. A new drug, the name eludes me, that is supposed to be approved this spring is supposed to be the closest thing to a magic bullet they’ve gotten so far. I just have to keep vertical until then.

The Doc said the Taxotere won’t take my PSA down to 27 like before but will hopefully stabilize it until the new drug becomes available or Duke has its trial. I asked the Doc the same thing you would ask…..what if the Taxotere doesn’t work….he said “we’re running out of options”…..”so what do we do then?” I said, “Go fishing?” He said that we’ll cross that bridge when we get to it! OK, then it is going to have to work! At least slow the damn thing down from 9 points a day to maybe 1 every 2 days or something. He also said the scans have had very little change, and that is more important than the PSA. So that’s good news!

I think I have finally gotten a good schedule going for the bone pain. They prescribed a longer lasting drug to be accompanied with the milder drug I’m taking…….Morphine! Morphine? That’s what the soldiers in the old war movies used to yell when they got shot! “Medic! Morphine!” I told them I was going to hold off on the addictive stuff until I really needed it. I listen to my body…it tells me what to do. Morphine, indeed!

One last disturbing thing….as I was leaving the exam room one of the last things the Doc said was “ya know it’s going to get you eventually”. As controlled and calmly as I could, I told him “No, it’s not!” Oh ye of little faith!

I have to share this…The (Myrtle Beach) Sun News ran an article today in the local section that headlined

“Man Charged with receiving Stolen goods!"
(Then very nonchalantly)
“A Longs man, twice convicted for having sex with a Conway woman’s horse, is facing charges again, this time related to stolen property”.
The article goes on to say that he had to register as a sex offender!....Does that mean that he can’t live within 500 feet of a corral? LOL.     And he was convicted twice!....She must have been a good sport! Which brings the question….what IS the horse doing during all of this? I really don’t even want to know how you physically make this happen! Check it out.
