Life From Here # 92

Seasons Greetings from the Chemo Lounge in beautiful downtown Charlotte! I’m once again sitting here “gettin’ the goods”. I can’t believe I’m starting my third year of chemo.

As you might imagine this is a pretty subdued group so I think they should schedule all of these at night and put a couple of shots or more of vodka in the drip bags and let everybody party the night away.

My PSA went up 3 points to 330, as in elections, that’s within the margin of error to be 0. Going down is better than going up but it went up 17 points last time so I consider it a tie…..for now. Before overtime in football they used to say a tie was like kissing your sister. I would rather kiss my sister than be tied but whatcha gonna do?

This is the time of year when people reflect on the past 12 months and assess where they were and how they got to where they are.

My last 12 months have been.…Good!....I mean…I’m still vertical!

Once I got off the combo of Taxotere and the clinical trial drug in
April I felt….let’s say…less beat up and that was the way it was for most of my summer. Of course my PSA has gone from 26 last spring to within 44 points of where it was when all this started, 374. But, I’ve been kicking the beasts’ ass as much if not more than it has kicked mine. Along with the Prayers and Spiritual Energy, my mental attitude is my best weapon……and I’ve got that covered.

I still have people ask if I’ve ever wondered “why me?” Well first of all, I guess it has to be somebody…..second of all…who would I ask? I just happened to draw the short straw…that’s all.

In early 2010, I was just starting chemo, going through a divorce, the economy was (and still is) in the toilet and the IRS decided it would be a GREAT idea to audit me…..I must admit I did wonder then .…Why me…all at once?

Well, as we all do, I hope for a better year in 2012. Of course the Mayan calendar says we’re all going to die this year. I wrote last year that my view of that is that the Mayans just got tired of making and having to move around those big, heavy ass stone calendars……they had already projected 3,000 years into the future!…They had to stop somewhere!

An older couple, suffering from the economy, were at the end of their money. The wife said “Well, I have no skills so I’m just going to have to go out and sell my body” and she left. She stumbled back in around 8:00 A.M. the next morning and pulled out $103.00. Her husband said “Who gave you the $3.00?” and she said…..“All of them!”

Through out this year and even last year, so many of you have supported me with Prayer, Spiritual Energy, food and thoughtful e-mails. Thank you, again. Now let’s go kick some cancer butt in 2012! B.
