Back From The Abyss # 93

Well, color me surprised! After having a relatively mild time of Nadir the past few treatments (Again, the lowest blood counts [2 or 3 days] of the 3 week cycle)…it came on with a vengeance this time. I shouldn’t be surprised. Most people I know that have had cancer and have the usual 5-6 treatments have always said it gets worse as it goes. That was never the case for me before, hence the “Gotcha”.

In addition to the “pregnant flu like" symptoms, I can now enjoy bone pain as a real issue. I’ve mentioned this before…it’s probably about what you would feel if you “pulled” your back or strained it lifting….but I know the cause is not a wrenched back…..that plays with my head a little bit and reminds me….I’m in deep shit!

The pain is mostly in my spine and I can pretty much keep it at bay with Tylenol and aspirin..…it just makes an uncomfortable situation even more so. Not to mention, they say not to drink when you take Tylenol or it can cause liver damage……that ain’t gonna happen…I’ve done better than most and haven’t followed a lot of the rules so why start with wine?

Going grocery shopping is a different experience these days. I almost always get a shopping cart (then take it back and get one without a wobbly wheel).....After looking like Chevy Chase (Saturday Night Live) in public far too many times, I take the cart so as not to add falling into a canned soup display as part of my repertoire.
I spend a lot of time in the produce department….trying to get interested. One so-called cancer curing diet called for something like 20 pounds of Kale a week!…...20 pounds?...Really? You’d have seaweed growing out your nose!!.....I figure if I hang around and look at it long enough, I’ll benefit via osmosis. Then off to the corn dogs!
The meat department makes me gag but it's protein and that's what I need.  I only have 2 rules;  I don't eat organs or glands and I don't eat anything I can't pronounce.
Going through the store gives me ideas of what to eat. A lot of things look good in the store but not when it’s time to serve....soooo, if I’m not careful I’ll walk out with entrees that include Krispy Kreme doughnuts, frozen sausage biscuits and other Comfort food…anything for nourishment.

I’m looking forward to a healthier and much more productive 2012. I wish the same for all of you and know that I’m sending Prayers and Spiritual Light to those that need it…….and some that don’t know they do. And, as always, thank you for doing the same for me. Bob

  1. As of Sunday, you have been added to our church prayer tree. So, in the future, if you feel more
like a presbyterian than anytime in the past, it's
because there are a whole lot of presbyterians praying for you.
